Waynetown – Richard Riley Pierce, 38, in failing health several years, died in his home here at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday after a day’s serious illness. A native of this community, he spent his life here with the exception of a short time he lived at Spencer. A graduate of Waynetown HS in 1936, he operated a hand-made jewelry business in his home. He formerly was employed in the aluminum plant at Lafayette and was married to Frieda McGuire at Bloomington in 1943. Surviving with the widow are two sons, Steven and Jay, at home; hi mother, Mrs. Gertrude Pierce, Waynetown; a brother, William of Linden and two sisters, Mrs. Mary McCormick, New Richmond R 1, and Mrs. Fern Sarver, Waynetown. - klz

Funeral services for Richard R. Pierce were held from the Servies Funeral Home Friday afternoon.  Rev. Guy E. Tremaine officiated and Mrs. MB Snyder, organist, played In the Garden and Whispering Hope.  The pall bearers, who assisted with the flowers were Herbert McGuire, Wayne McGuire, Kenneth Franklin, all of Spencer; Minter McGuire, Reelsville; Max Dazey, Roy Bunnell, Wingate. Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kz
